Notice to Teams in Division One for the new Winter Season

TABLE  TENNIS  PREVIEW

The Oldham and District Table Tennis 04/05 season gets underway next week with 55 teams competing in the four divisions with a total of 235 registered players. This is indicative of a very strong league in a sport, which in recent years has experienced considerable decline.

The unfortunate demise of the Hamer Club in Rochdale together with BAe A resigning from the league has left two available places which have been taken up by Glodwick and a team from the Wilmslow league playing under the name of and playing from BAe A. The former Glodwick club now play at Failsworth and are renamed Failsworth A.

It is impossible to see the NCFPPP Division 1 monopoly derailed since top former BAe A players Mark Ramsbottom & Mike Moir have joined their squad.

Former top player Nick Mooney has joined Werneth A after a lengthy spell out of the game. Phil Myers teams up with his Rochdale colleague Eddie Darlington at Werneth B. Gary Blackhurst has moved to Hollinwood B and Ken Ward stepping up a division at Honeywell A. The new Wilmslow team are likely to finish in the top four with players of the calibre of Ian Mathers. Tony Smith, Tony Bates & Tom Lang to call upon.

Div 2 promises to be stronger than in recent years with the newly relegated Rosehill B favourites for a quick return to the top flight with players such as Simon Collins. Jim Findlow and Andy Perry at their disposal.

Uppermill, who in recent seasons have possibly underachieved, could mount a serious challenge with the signing of ex Div 1 player Gary Crossley after several years absence.

Failsworth C should mount a challenge with Rob Carter, Philip Moran & new signing Siful Khan.

Div 3 also looks to be very competitive with Unison B, Gilders A, Coldhurst and Owls A together with the relegated Hamer Delph, all likely to be thereabouts.

In Div 4 the Werneth , Failsworth and Uppermill teams should all be in contention. Failsworth have three lady players registered this season in Rebekah Griffith, Champa Vachji and Hayley Wilkinson.
