THE DECKERS RESTAURANTS OLDHAM TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

KHAN IS NEW TITLE HOLDER

Teenager Siful Khan produced an excellent display off attacking table tennis to lift the Open Singles crown this weekend. He served notice of his intentions earlier in the day by beating past winner Andy Jackson in the group stages. His first real test came at the semi-final stage where he overcame former champion Michael Moir in four games. The final hurdle was against current holder Dave Griffith. He displayed remarkable calm and shot selection under pressure to clinch a 13-11 fourth game decider. This result, albeit a major surprise can be reconciled by the fact that Siful is ranked in the top 90 junior players in England.

The Veterans final proved to be heartbreak for Mark Ramsbottom. He led Dave Griffith 10-8 in a fifth game decider only to lose the next four points and the title. There was some consolation for Mark in the doubles final. He teamed up with Andy Jackson to clinch a straight games win over Peter Morris and Stuart Meredith.

Nick Mooney won the Div1 handicap beating Dave Morris in the final.

Div 2 went to Ken Hayes who overcame Steve Lyons.

Mark Craven beat Tom Chandler to win Div 3 and Rebekah Griffith took Div 4 beating Peter Aspinall.
