COLDHURST ON DOUBLE TRAIL

 

Division 4 leaders Coldhurst D produced the performance of the week in round 2 of the divisional handicap cup. Massive gains from the Coldhurst trio of Malcolm Wills (74), Terry Holland (73), and Adrian Waugh (72) were the foundation of the eventual 80pt win over Failsworth E.

The 55pt start for Honeywell E proved too big an obstacle for the juniors of Failsworth F despite gains from Danny Cooper (18) and Jordan McNamara (10). Gains of 3pts each for Ronnie Holt and Lee Rowbotham helped them home by an overall 40 pts.

Contributions from Jim Bradbury (12) and Gary Kershaw (15) helped Uppermill C to a 44pt win over Unison D.

 

In Division 1 BAE A conceded a 102 pt start to BAE B and eventually won by 25. Tony Vaughan(59), Tony Bates(47) and Tony Smith (25) being responsible for the success.

Rosehill A progressed to the semi finals courtesey of a 70pt win at Werneth B. Richard Sarre and Dave Pegg notched 29 and 25 respectively.

Gains for Siful Khan (17) and Kamal Hussain (22) helped Glodwick shade proceedings by a mere 10pts over Hollinwood A.

The gain of 32 for Rob Carter helped Failsworth A to a 39pt win at Honeywell C in Division 2.

The division 3 basement battle saw Failsworth D edge Coldhurst C by a mere 2pts. Jack Greenwood gained 52 backed by 19 from Peter Aspin contributed to the nerve jangling finale.

Cool heads were also required at Gilders B as they overcame Grotton B by just 8pts. The Neil Tomlinson gain of 44 proving to no avail.

A modest gain of 13 for Andy Hey helped steer Unison C to an overall 31pt win over Uppermill B.

The Derek Buckley gain of 45 backed by 32 from Ray Woods were the foundation of the 51pt win for Failsworth C over Werneth D.

OLDHAM EARN PREMIER DIVISION SPOT.

 

            The Oldham Table Tennis Team of Phil Myers, Dave Buckley & Jon DePledge had an impressive weekend beating both Manchester and Preston 6-0 and in what turned out to be the decider they went on to beat nearest rivals Halton 4-2. This is their second successive promotion and now assures them of a Premier Division spot next season in the Lancashire & Cheshire League

 

In Division 1 of the Oldham & District Table Tennis League BAE A team easily disposed of bottom team Werneth C 10-0 to keep up the pressure on leaders Werneth A.

Challengers OTTC A could only manage a draw with Glodwick. Bill Russell trebled backed by a Dave Griffith double, losing in 5 against the current Oldham Champion Siful Khan

Rosehill B now occupy a relegation spot following their 9-1 loss against Werneth B who themselves are having one of their best seasons, with Phil Myers, Eddie Darlington and Mandy Winskill all in fine form.

Hollinwood B beat OTTC B 8-2 with a George Jones maximum and doubles from Jack Christian and Colin Boardman.

 

In Division 2 Uppermill A remain well clear at the top after their 8-2 win against Hollinwood D, which included a surprise loss for Glenn Hewitt against Glenn Dowse.

Hollinwood C drew with Hyde YMCA B for whom Steve Lyons was unbeaten.

Honeywell C are on a good run, disposing of their B team 8-2 thanks to an Adam Rowbotham treble and doubles from Ian Naylor & Barrie Royle.

Failsworth A had a welcome 7-3 win at Grotton A with a treble from Rob Carter and a double from Paul Carrter with Dave Morris replying likewise.

A two man Unison A team beat Coldhurst A 6-4, gifting Colhurst a precious 3 points in their battle against relegation.

Relegation threatened Hollinwood E picked up a 6-4 win against First Transport, Gary Newton being unbeaten.

 

A Mick Pellowe treble helped Werneth D to the top of Division 3 giving them a 6-4 win against a strong Grotton B.

Honeywell Lane D, who are also going well, beat Community Centre 7-3 with a treble from Alan Marston and a double from Ken Dunkerley,

Gilders B team of Colin Ogden, Mark Craven & Fred Wood all won two each in their 7-3 win against Failsworth D for whom improving youngster Matthew Evans trebled.

The mid-table clash between Coldhurst B and Owls A was edged by Coldhurst 6-4 mainly thanks to a Geoff Hollin treble which included an incredible 20-18 victory in the fifth game against the unfortunate Dave Harthan

 

Division 4 leaders Coldhurst D beat Deaf Club 9-1 with a good win for Stuart Davis

against Malcolm Wills.

The Unison D team of John Mark, Denis Heyes and Martin Haigh all won two each at OTTC C to win7-3. Rebekah Griffith was unbeaten for OTTC.

A treble by Mark Lee and doubles from Chris Brazewell and Peter Skuse helped Saddleworth CC to a 7-3 victory against Coldhurst F for whom Dave Varney doubled.

Ronnie Holt (3), Lee Rowbotham (3) and John Kershaw (2) gave Honeywell Lane E a 9-1 win against Werneth F with Mark Riddle avoiding the whitewash.

Werneth E beat Owls B 7-3 with an all round team effort.  Julian  Minshall, Dave Renton and Geoff Aspinall all winning two each with Dinesh Gorasia replying likewise.

ROWBOTHAM CLINCHES NATIONALS FINALS DATE.

 

Failsworth School were represented at the Greater Manchester Schools Individual Championships this weekend. 15 year old Adam Rowbotham won the under 19 boys and now qualifies for the National Finals at Stoke in April.

Rebekah Griffith fell at the semi final stage of the u/16 girls whilst Matthew Evans reached the last eight of the u/16 boys.  

                                                                                                                                    

The promotion charge of Hollinwood C was disrupted by third placed Honeywell C in Division 2 of the Oldham Table Tennis League. The Honeywell trio of Brian Higgins , Ian Naylor and Adam Rowbotham all posted doubles in the 7-3 win with the Phil Holmes maximum in reply proving to no avail.

A Steve Oliver treble backed by doubles from Dave Morris and Neil Tomlinson helped Grotton to an 8-2 win at lowly Pennine for whom Glen Chadwick notched the two.

Unbeaten stints from Glen Hewitt and Gary Crossley maintained the divisional leadership with an 8-2 success at First Transport.

Doubles from Steve Mather and Peter Dawson helped Hollinwood E share the points with Failsworth A for whom Rob Carter was unbeaten.

 

There was no change at the top of Division 1 with both Werneth A and BAE A registering 8-2 wins. Daryl Meredith and Ian McClean were unbeaten backed by a Peter Morris double at Rosehill whilst Tony Smith & Tony Vaughan posted trebles backed by a Tony Bates double against Hyde YM A.

Majid Tubasum was in fine form for Glodwick. His unbeaten stint was backed by doubles from Kamal Hussain and Siful Khan in the 8-2 win over OTTC B for whom Dave Griffith posted the two.

Colin Boardman trebled for Hollinwood B in the 6-4 win over Rosehill B. He was supported by a Jack Christian double and a Gary Newton single, on his top flight debut with Andy Perry responding with a double.

 

Division three leaders Uppermill B won comfortably at Unison C. Peter Watson was unbeaten backed by doubles from Keith Moores and Howard Meadham with Dave Hanson replying likewise in the 8-2 scoreline.

An 8-2 win for Werneth D at Failsworth D keeps them in second place. Alan Else was unbeaten backed by doubles from Mike Pellowe and Julian Minshall with Matthew Evans responding similarly.

The 8-2 win for Unison B at Owls A keeps them in touch at the top. John Maher and Mike O’Gara trebled backed by a Dave Atkinson double.

Alan Marston was unbeaten for Honeywell D, he was backed by a Ken Dunkerley double in a close fought 6-4 win over Gilders B.

 

It was top versus bottom in Division 4 with leaders Coldhurst D brushing aside their F team with ease. Neil England, Malcolm Wills and Adrian Waugh being resposible for the 10-0 rout.

Second placed Unison D surprisingly lost their unbeaten record to improving newcomers Saddleworth CC. Peter Skuse notched a fine treble backed by a Chris Brazewell double for the cricket club with Dennis Heyes replying likewise in the 6-4 scoreline.

Murray Corbin trebled for Coldhurst E in the 7-3 win at Werneth E. He was backed by a Paul Cahill double,with Philip Coombe notching likewise for Werneth.

An unbeaten stint from John Kershaw backed by doubles from Michael Ganley and Lee Rowbotham helped Honeywell E to an 8-2 win at Failsworth E.

The top two teams met in Division 1 of the Oldham & District Table Tennis league with Werneth A emerging narrow 6- 4 victors in a good sporting game against BAE A. A Darryl Meredith treble backed by Ian McLean’s double, which included a 17 –15 win in the fifth against Tony Bates, shaded the result. Tony Smith replied with a double.

There was a welcome 6-4 win for BAE B against Hollinwood B to move them just one point above a relegation spot. Doubles for Kevin & Mick Hill, a single from Ted Robakowski plus the doubles game, did the trick.

Rosehill B now occupy the 2nd relegation spot following their 10 – 0 reversal against Glodwick.

Hyde YM A’ s 8-2 win over Werneth C keeps the latter firm bottom.

 

In Division 2, second placed Hollinwood C had to call on Colin Boardman, who duly obliged winning his three against Hollinwood D in the 8-2 scoreline.

Third place Honeywell Lane similarly disposed of Unison A with a treble from Ian Naylor and doubles from Barrie Royle & Adam Rowbotham, with Paul Howarth replying likewise.

First Transport beat Honeywell Lane B courtesy of a Ken Hayes maximun and Tommy Ryan double.

Coldhurst A’s 6-4 win against the two player Pennine takes them one point above the relegation zone, whilst dragging Pennine into the battle for survival.

The Grotton A team of Dave Morris (2), Tony Prescott (1) and Steve Oliver (2) beat Hollinwood E 6-4 to keep the latter second bottom.

 

In the closely contested Division 3, Uppermill’s 10-0 win against bottom team Coldhurst C opens up a 4 points lead at the top.

Second placed Werneth D overcame 5th placed Honeywell D 7-3 with a Mick Pellowe treble and a double from Alan Else.

Third placed Grotton B edged out Owls A 6-4 thanks to an Alf Barker maximum. Dave Harthan and Paul Woodward replied with doubles.

Fourth placed Unison B suffered a 6-4 reversal at Failsworth C for whom Derek Buckley trebled and Ray Woods doubled.

Failsworth D moved to within 3 points of Coldhurst B following their 7-3 victory at Coldhurst. Improving youngster Matthew Evans and Vin Gaffey putting in unbeaten performances.

Community Centre move one point above relegation after their 7-3 win against Unison C. Peter Buckley was unbeaten, backed by a double from Leo Cogger with Steve Slater replying likewise.

Gilders A did their B Team no favours beating them 9-1and into a relegation spot.

 

Coldhurst D increased their lead in Division 4 following their whitewash of Owls B.

Unison D remain in second place with maximums from John Mark & Martin Haigh and a double from Roger Jagger giving them a 9-1 win against Coldhurst F.

Werneth E beat Honeywell E 10 –0 but the scoreline did not reflect the play. Darren Mitzi played particularly well for Werneth , gaining his first treble so far.

The regular Failsworth F team of youngsters, Danny Cooper, Bradley Dawson & Jordan McNamara, had no trouble disposing of their ‘E’ team 10-0, demonstrating their improvement throughout the season.

Maximums from Murray Corbin and Peter Altham helped Coldhurst E to an 8-2 win against the Deaf Club.
