This was the week of surprise results in the Oldham Table Tennis League. The biggest surprise probably came in Division three where Gilders Tackle B, at the fourteenth time of asking, recorded their first win of the season, an emphatic 9-1 victory over Failsworth C. This victory lifts Gilders off the bottom of the table, with Failsworth C replacing them. Gerry Lees and Mark Craven were unbeaten with Tony Robinson recording two wins for Gilders.
Owls A moved into second spot in the division thanks to a 9-1 victory over Honeywell E, with Dave Harthan, Paul Woodward and Philip Tamworth being unbeaten.
Grotton B kept their promotion hopes alive with a 9-1 defeat of Coldhurst C thanks to three wins each from Alf Barker and Neil Tomlinson, and two for Alan Sarsfield.
Honeywell D got the better of Failsworth B 8-2 with three wins for Ken Dunkerley and two each for Alan Marston and Derek Naylor. Steve Collins replied with two wins for Failsworth.
In the bottom half of the table Unison D moved above Coldhurst B thanks to an 8-2 victory.
The surprise result in this division came in the inter club game between Hollinwood A and Hollinwood B, with the B team coming out 6-4 winners thanks to three wins form George Jones and two from Dave Cheetham. Simon Hardwick replied for two wins for Hollinwood A.
OTTC A got the better of Uppermill A 8-2 thanks to three wins from Dave Griffith and two wins each for juniors Rebekah Griffith and Anne Godwin.
Leaders Glodwick look on course for the title with another emphatic win, this time 10-0 against Hollinwood C.
This division also came up with a surprise result with promotion chasing Werneth C going down to a surprise 7-3 defeat at Honeywell B. Howard Travis won three sets with Ken Ward and Peter Buckley adding two wins each for Honeywell. The only winner for Werneth was Paul Wilkinson with two wins.
Hollinwood E got the better of Coldhurst A 6-4 in an excellent match, with Andy McNab being unbeaten for Hollinwood.
In the mid-table match between Hyde YMCA B and First Transport Hyde came out 7-3 victors, thanks to an unbeaten performance from Nick Bakewell.
In the clash between Grotton A and Hyde YMCA B Philip Schofield lost his first match of the season going down in four games to Dennis Bradshaw. However, despite this, Grotton came out 9-1 victors.
This division could not escape the surprise results either with leaders Coldhurst D losing 6-4 to mid-table Werneth E. Winners for Werneth were Alan Wynn with three and Dave Renton with two. Dave Varney replied with two wins for Coldhurst.
Uppermill C remain in second spot thanks to a 9-1 victory over Failsworth E.
Howard Meadham and Jim Bradbury recorded three wins each with Ali Mirza winning two.
Honeywell F remain close on the heels of the top two after defeating Coldhurst F 10-0 thanks to unbeaten performances from John Kershaw, Ronnie Holt and Lee Rowbotham.
OTTC B just got the better of Owls B 6-4 thanks to three wins from Carl Simpson and two from Champa Vaghji. Dinesh Gorasia replied with two wins for Owls.

Tight at the bottom
Centre stage this week was the struggle at the bottom of the division with second bottom Rosehill B earning four points in the 6-4 defeat at home to Werneth B. Two wins for Bob Moores, one win for Andy Perry and the doubles gave them their four points. Mandy Winskill replied with an unbeaten performance for Werneth.
Honeywell A helped their cause with a creditable draw against mid-table Uppermill A, thanks mainly to an unbeaten performance form Gary Skinner.
Hollinwood B and Hollinwood C are still too close to the relegation places after defeats to Hyde YMCA and Hollinwood A, 6-4 and 8-2 respectively.
The mid-table clash between OTTC A and Rosehill A ended in a 6-4 victory for OTTC A with Dave Griffith being unbeaten.
Hollinwood E eased their relegation worries with an excellent 7-3 victory at Failsworth A, thanks to two wins each for Ron Mitchell, Andy McNabb and John Foster. Richard Hinchcliffe replied with two wins for Failsworth.
In the other relegation battle, bottom side Pennine got the better of Hollinwood D with a 6-4 victory thanks to three wins from John Robinson and two wins from Glen Chadwick. Glen Dowse replied with two wins for Hollinwood.
In the chase between top and bottom, Unison A were too strong for Pennine, with a 9-1 victory. Paul Howarth and Peter Ashworth were both unbeaten.
Coldhurst A eased their relegation problems with a 6-4 victory over second bottom Uppermill B. Gary Keylock was unbeaten for Coldhurst.
In the battle at the other end of the table, third place Grotton A came away from second placed Werneth C with a 6-4 victory.
The mid-table clash between Unison B and Honeywell Lane C ended with a 7-3 victory for Honeywell, with Barry Royle being unbeaten.
The match of the week in this division was the clash between first placed Gilders A and third placed Unison C, which ended in a draw. Andy Hey and Paul Whyatt had outstanding performances for Unison, winning two sets each while Adi Ewelia won three sets for Gilders.
The clash between second and fourth also ended in a draw with Dave Harthan unbeaten for Owls A and Mick Pellowe and Alan Else winning two sets each for second placed Werneth D.
At the other end of the table Gilders B have still not won, but they are getting closer; only going down 6-4 to mid-table Failsworth B, for whom Steve Collins was unbeaten. Gerry Lees replied with two wins for Gilders.
The inter club match between Coldhurst B and C ended with the B team coming out 7-3 winners, with no player being unbeaten. Tom Chandler, John McLoughlin and Dave Harris won two sets each for the B team, while Malcolm Willis won two sets for the C team.
The mid-table clash between Honeywell D and Unison D went the way of Honeywell, who won 7-3. Howard Travis had three wins and Alan Marston two wins for Honeywell, while Dennis Heyes replied with two wins for Unison.
Uppermill C strengthened their positioning second spot with an empathic 10-0 victory over bottom club Coldhurst F. Jim Bradbury, Ali Mirza and Gary Kershaw were all unbeaten.
Honeywell F remain in third spot after a comfortable 9-1 victory over their G team, with unbeaten performances from Ronnie Holt, Lee Rowbotham and Michael Ganley. The G teams only victory came in the doubles.
OTTC B got the better of Werneth F with a 7-3 victory, thanks to an unbeaten performance form John Rutland.
A hard fought draw resulted between Failsworth E and F teams, with Jake Crawley being unbeaten for the E team. Andrew Tarpey and James Collins replied with two wins each for the F team.
Werneth E got the better of Owls B, 7-3, thanks to unbeaten performances from Darren Mitzi and Dave Renton.
Chris Bazewell was unbeaten in the 7-3 victory for Saddleworth CC against Owls B.

Glodwick top at half way stage.
The halfway point of the season has been reached with Glodwick eight points clear of Aerospace A. After a 9-1 defeat of Aerospace B new signing Andrew Jackson and Kamal Hussain were both unbeaten while the only win for Aerospace B came from Mick Hill who defeated Imran Gul.
Aerospace A kept up the pressure with a 10-0 win over Werneth B.
Last years champions Werneth A are in fourth place after a 5-5 draw with Hollinwood A, for whom Wayne Renton was unbeaten.
Hyde YMCA A’s all round strength got the better of Hollinwood C with Steve Lyons winning three sets, supported by two wins each from Lionel Royle and Geoff Ogden.
Honeywell Lane and Rosehill A shared the points in an excellent match with David Pegg being unbeaten for Rosehill and Tim Baker and Adam Rowbotham replying with two wins each for Honeywell.
Bottom side Pennine did their chances of avoiding relegation the power of good with a 6-4 defeat of Honeywell B with Glen Chadwick winning all of his games for Pennine.
Second bottom Uppermill B also recorded a 6-4 victory over Failsworth A, with Vince Hill being unbeaten for Uppermill.
In the battle between Unison B and Hollinwood E a share of the points seemed fair. There were two wins each for Unison’s John Maher and Peter Dawson, with Ron Mitchell and John Foster winning two sets each for Hollinwood.
Unison A moved clear at the top of the division with a 9-1 victory over Coldhusrt A. Paul Howarth and Peter Ashworth were unbeaten.
Gilders A are looking very strong in the division after coming away from fourth placed Oldham Owls with an 8-2 victory.
Grotton B remain in contention after a comprehensive 9-1 victory over Coldhurst B. Alf Barker and Steve Smith each won three, while Alan Sarsfield won two.
Gilders B are still looking for their first victory of the season, going down to a 9-1 defeat at home to Unison D. Mike O’Gara and John Mark had three wins each while Dennis Heyes had two wins.
In a mid table clash, Honeywell D defeated Coldhurst C 7-3 thanks to three wins each from Terry Cooper and Allan Marsden.
Runaway leaders Coldhurst D extended their lead at the top of the table with a 10-0 defeat of Failsworth E. Peter Altham, Neil Chapman and Dave Varney all won their 3 matches.
2nd place Werneth F are now 1 point clear of Uppermill C after a 9-1 victory over their E team. Alan Wynn and Peter Aspinall won 3 sets each and Mark Riddle contributed 2 wins.
Third placed Uppermill C defeated Honeywell G 7-3 with Gary Kershaw unbeaten. Mid table Coldhurst E and Honeywell F shared a 5-5 draw with Neil and Dave England winning 2 sets each for Coldhurst. Ronnie Holt responded with 3 wins for Honeywell.
Failsworth F registered
a crushing 10-0 victory over Coldhurst F with Joe Crawley, Jake Crawley and
Callam Jones all being unbeaten.

Unison’s Big Win.
Division 2 took centre stage, especially for the teams fighting
against relegation. The big winners were Unison B who defeated Uppermill B 10-0
thanks to unbeaten performances from John Maher, Peter Dawson and David Atkinson,
whilst Hollinwood D helped their cause with a fine draw against Werneth C.
Grotton A continued their march up the table
defeating bottom club Pennine 10-0.
Honeywell B against Coldhurst A, and Honeywell
C against Hyde YMCA B finished with both Honeywell teams winning 6-4.
Unison A now take over top spot after defeating
Failsworth A 9-1.
Glodwick extended their lead with a 9-1 victory against Werneth B with maximums from Andy Jackson & Majid Tubasum. Eddie Darlington beat Bill Russell to avoid the whitewash.
Hollinwood A got the better of struggling Aerospace
B 9-1 thanks to maximums from Wayne Renton & Dave Buckley. Aerospace’s only
win came from Mick Hill defeating Jon DePledge.
OTTC A overcame Honeywell Lane A 7-3 with the
help of the talented junior Anne Godwin who won her three.
The two promoted clubs fought out a draw at
Uppermill A, with Gary Crossley being unbeaten, assisted by a double for Glen
Hewitt. Gary Newton won two for Hollinwood C
WernethD stay in contention after a 7-3 victory
against Grotton B, with 3 wins for Mick Pellowe and two from Alan Else. Alf
Barker winning two for Grotton.
Leaders Gilders A saw off Honeywell Lane E 8-2,
with Adi Eweila again unbeaten. Dave Watts beat Colin Ogden & Gerry Lees
to earn Honeywell’s points.
The fine run of form continued for Owls A with
their 8-2 victory over Failsworth C taking them into second spot with maximums
from Dave Harthan & Paul Woodward. Danny Cooper beat Philip Hall for Failsworth’s
only singles win.
Failsworth B move into 4th spot after
beating 5th placed unison C 6-4, although Unison have a game in hand.
Bottom team Gilders B lost 8-2 to Coldhurst
C for whom Malcolm Wills & Terry Holland were unbeaten.
Leaders Coldhurst D easily disposed of their F team 10-0.
Owls B remain in second spot with unbeaten performances by Dinesh Gorasia & Philip Tamworth in their 8-2 win against Failsworth E.
Third placed Uppermill C also won 8-2 with maximums from Jim Bradbury & Stuart Hanson against Coldhurst E, who have now slipped to fourth following three successive defeats.
Failsworth F shared the points with Honeywell
G in an entertaining encounter. Callum Jones starred for the Failsworth youngsters,
winning his three. John Ganley & Peter Ganley won two each for Honeywell.
Werneth E got the better of OTTC B 6-4 despite
3 wins for Carl Simpson for the losers.
