Match Reports for W/c 17th December 01
In Division 1, Royton A lost their first match in over 2 seasons going down 6-4 at Werneth A. Werneth's Darryl Meredith maintained his unbeaten record for the season, assisted by Ian McLean (2) who came close to a maximum himself, having been one game up and 18-12 up in the second against Andy Jackson, before narrowly losing the third on deuce.
Werneth D gained their first win in Division 2 since the opening match of the season beating Hyde YMCA B 6-4 mainly due to Dave Simpkin (3) and Doreen Schofield (2). Winners for Hyde were Dennis Bradshaw (2) Ken Ward (1) and Vernon Hyde (1).
A Ceramics beat Honeywll Lane 9-1. Ken Dunkerley beat Stuart Carter 25-23, 22-20 for the single win.
Hollinwood F drew with Uppermill A. Hollinwood's Bob Johnson starred with 3 wins with single contributions from George Marrow and Harry Ross. Uppermill's replies came from Dave Grundy (2) and Peter Watson (2).
In Division 3, Grotton B kept their good run going beating close rivals Gilders 6-4. Bill Ingham being unbeaten.
Austerlands beat Transport B 6- 4 thanks to a 24-22 win in the deciding game of the doubles. Glenn Chadwick won his 3 for Transport.
Coldhurst A drew with Owls B. Geoff Hollin (3), Tony Hodgkinson (2) with Owls wins coming from Paul Woodward (2) Dinesh Gorasia (1) and Dave Foden (1).

Hanging Gate picked up a welcome draw in the first division against Hamer A. Tony Hutchinson winning 3 for Hamer.
Hamer B lost 6-4 to A Ceramics in the second division in spite of an impressive unbeaten performance from Alex Hinchcliffe.
Hollinwood C kept up the pressure on A Ceramics and BAe, beating Werneth C 8-2 with a maximum from Dave Buckley.
Honeywell Lane whitewashed Werneth D, leaving them adrift at the bottom.
Transport B pegged back leaders of Div 3 inflicting the first defeat of the season on Transport A. Dave Harris starred with 3 wins.
Second placed Grotton B had a good 8-2 win against Unison A.
Peter Buckley continued his good form winning 3 for Community Centre in the draw with Unison B.
In Division 4 third placed Werneth E beat their F team 8-2. Mike Pellowe beat Phil Coombe who lost his second game of the season in consecutive weeks, having lost to Tony Hodgkinson last week.
Fifth placed Unison D lost 6-4 to second placed Uppermill B. Dennis Heyes was unbeaten for Unison.
Oldham Owls A remain clear at the top.

The ‘makeshift’ Hollinwood A pulled off a surprise 9-1 win at the high flying Hamer A in Division 1 with wins from Jack Christian (3), John Flowers (3) and Simon Hardwick (2). John DePledge was Hamer’s only winner.
In Division 2 Hollinwood F drew with Hamer B thanks to 3 wins from Bob Johnson. Alex Hinchcliffe and Adam Thornton replied with 2 wins each.
Hyde YMCA B beat Hollinwood E 8-2 with wins from Ken Ward (3) Nick Bakewell (2) and Dennis Bradshaw (2). Ray Statham and Paul Rourke were Hollinwood’s winners.
In Division 3, Community Centre drew with Unison B with three of their victories by way of the narrowest of margins. Peter Buckley won his three, with his 13-21,32-30, 24-22 win over Steve Wild being the highlight.
Leaders Transport A convincingly beat second placed Grotton B 9-1.
Third and Fourth placed Austerlands and Gilders Tackle met with Austerlands running out
6-4 winners, mainly due to Pete Roddy who won his 3.
Owls A, leaders of Division 4, had a 10-0 win over Failsworth C. Their regular players, Philip Hall, David Harthan and Martin Raines were too strong for Failsworth with only one set going to 3 games.
Second placed Unison C beat Deaf B 8-2 with John Hanson being unbeaten.
