Newspaper Article W/c 22nd April 02.
In a well contested 2nd Division Handicap Cup Final, Werneth C , with a 79 point start, managed to maintain an advantage over BAe B until the sixth set when a devastating spell of hitting by 'Fast' Eddie Kalinowski overpowered veteran No 1 Bernard Davies 21-15, 21-8 wrested the initiative from Werneth.
BAe B then appeared to be coasting to victory, until the last singles when Davies avenged his earlier defeat by beating BAe No 1 Kevin Hill 21-9, 21-18 to reduce the deficit to a mere 12 points with just the Doubles remaining. At one stage, Werneth led the doubles 12-6 but the father & son combination of Peter & Kevin Hill stepped up a gear to win eventually 21-13, 21-19 taking the cup by 22points. BAe B are the only team this year to complete the League & Cup Double.
The Division 1 Handicap Cup was won by Hyde YMCA A beating Royton A by 46 points. Wayne Renton played brilliantly all night for Royton but 'Bandit' Lionel Royle did the business for Hyde, ably assisted by Dave Sefton and Terry Taylor.
Deaf A won the Division 3 final increasing the 67 point start they had against Transport B by an extra 27 points to win easily by 94 points. Hitesh Kanji starred gaining 26 points himself, whilst Ian Cochrane and Prakash Varsani held their own.
In the Division 4 Final Werneth E, with a 5point start, went on to beat Unison C by 59 points. Tony Hyde turned on the style picking up 51 points in his games.

Newspaper Article W/c 15th April 02.
Last week was the last scheduled week of the Oldham & District Table Tennis League season, although a few outstanding games are arranged for this coming week, which is the Cup Finals week. All promotion and relegation issues though have already been settled.
In Division 1 Werneth B moved away from relegation when they beat Hollinwood B 6-4 in a game played for double points. George Jones won his 3 for Hollinwood.
Royton A are the champions for the 9th consecutive year. Werneth A are runners up.
We are guaranteed new champions next year as the Royton teams are disbanding due to their premises no longer being suitable.
Rosehill B and Hanging Gate ended the season in the relegation spots.
BAe B won Division 2 by three points from Hollinwood C.
Werneth D finished bottom with Hollinwood F just 2 points behind their E team who finished third from bottom.
Transport A have won Division 3 by 13 points from Gilders Tackle, whilst Lancashire Health & Racquets Club and Deaf Club A finished adrift at the bottom.
Owls A team has easily won Division 4 and Uppermill B need only 2 points from their last 2 games to become runners up.
The youngsters from Failsworth B have acquitted themselves very well as have new team Coldhurst C. Both teams will have learned much about the game to stand them in good stead for next season.
