Report for week 11,
ending 23rd November 2007.
In Division 1, Hollinwood A moved into second place after a 9-1 win over Rosehill A with maximums from George Jones, Simon Hardwick and Ian Quinn.
Werneth A are third after a 7-3 win over Hyde YMCA A, closely followed by BAE A who beat Hollinwood B 7-3, Tony Bates (3) and Tony Lang (2) starring.
There were 10-0 wins for leaders Glodwick and OTTC A over Werneth B and Werneth C respectively.
At the bottom of the table, there were significant wins for Grotton A over Wardle Con Club by 8-2 and for Uppermill A over BAE B by 7-3. For Grotton, Shaun Ellis (3) Phil Schofield (2) and Dave Morris (2) won the points whilst Mick Hill’s treble for BAE B was of no avail with Uppermill’s Gary Crossley, Tony Prescott and Mark Simpson all winning two.
In Division 2, Coldhurst A had an impressive 8-2 win at Rosehill B thanks to Duncan Hadfield (3) Roger Lee (2) and Simon King (2).
Leaders First Transport white washed Hollinwood D 10-0 whilst second place Hollinwood C took advantage of a weakened Unison A team with a 7-3 win thanks to two wins each from Phil Holmes, John Flowers and Bob Johnson. Les Evans won all three for the visitors.
Pennine won their first match of the season with a 6-4 victory over Failsworth A. Glen Chadwick (3) and John Robertson (2) impressed whilst Adam Rowbotham won two for Failsworth.
Unison B dropped to bottom place following a 3-7 defeat at Hollinwood E for whom Glen Dowse trebled.
Ade Ewenla won another three for Gilders A but failed to stop a 4-6 defeat at Honeywell A with Barrie Royle, Brian Higgins and Howard Travis winning two each. In the remaining match, Hyde YMCA B beat Werneth D 8-2, Dennis Bradshaw winning three and Mike Pellowe two for the visitors.
In Division 3, leaders Grotton B beat bottom placed Honeywell D 10-0 whilst second placed Coldhurst B had a hard earned 7-3 win at Owls A for whom Dave Harthen won two and improving Richard Tamworth one. Simon Walsh (3) and Tom Chandler (2) starred for Coldhurst.
It was defeats for the other Coldhurst teams with the C team losing 3-7 at third placed Honeywell C and the D team losing 1-9 to fourth placed Uppermill B.
Uppermill C had an excellent 7-3 win at Failsworth C thanks to wins from Stuart Hanson (3) and Jim Bradbury (2).
Gilders B beat Failsworth B 6-4 and in the only drawn match in the league last week, Unison C held Honeywell B thanks to two wins from John Mark whilst Allan Marston (3) and Terry Cooper (2) scored for the visitors.
In Division 4, the youngsters of Failsworth E had an excellent 9-1 win at Werneth F thanks to Paul King (3), Andrew Tarpey (3) and James Collins (2).
A treble from Phil Mellor and two each from Dave England and Neil Bamford secured a 7-3 win for Coldhurst E over OTTC B for whom John Rutland won two. Owls B beat Failsworth F 9-1 whilst Honeywell E beat Failsworth D 6-4 in two very sporting matches. Dinesh Gorasia (3), Phil Tamworth (3) David Foden (2) for Owls, Alan Nightingale (2), Dave Murphy (2) for Failsworth D and Pete Ganley (3) for Honeywell E making most impact.

Division 2
The highlight this week was the clash between second placed Unison A and leaders First Transport. The league leaders came out on top 7-3 thanks to three
wins from Steve Barber and two from Tommy Ryan. David Cheetham replied with two wins for Unison.
This result enabled Hollinwood C to move into second place after defeating Gilders A6-4. Philip Holmes, John Flowers and Bob Johnson all winning 2 sets for the victors. Adi Ewenla was unbeaten for Gilders.
Rosehill B closed the gap in fourth place after an 8-2 victory over Hollinwood D.
Hollinwood E moved out of the relegation places after an excellent 8-2 victory over Werneth D. Ron Mitchell being unbeaten backed by two wins each from John Foster and Harry Ross.
Division 1
Glodwick continued their march at the top of the table with their 10th successive win, this time with a 6-4 victory at Hyde YMCA. Mark Ramsbottom was unbeaten for the league leaders while Terry Taylor and Caroline Hallows recorded two wins each for Hyde.
Werneth A moved into second spot after defeating Grotton A 6-4. Darryl Meredith was unbeaten for Werneth while Shaun Ellis recorded two wins for Grotton.
Werneth C stay in the relegation zone despite defeating Uppermill A 6-4, Wilf Crompton was unbeaten backed by two wins from Paul Wilkinson.
Wardle remain bottom of the league despite an excellent 5-5 draw against OTTC A.
Division 3
Coldhurst B remain top of the division after defeating third place Honeywell Lane C 7-3 Gary Keylock recording three wins and Simon Walsh two for Coldhurst. Ken Dunkerley replied with two wins for Honeywell.
Grotton B kept up the pressure in second place with a 9-1 defeat of Uppermill B with Alf Barker, Steve Smith and Alan Sarsfield all being unbeaten.
Honeywell Lane B remain in fourth spot after defeating Gilders B 6-4.
Unison C recorded a 6-4 victory over Uppermill C to keep in touch with the promotion places.
Coldhurst D remain in the relegation places after going down to a 6-4 defeat at Failsworth B.
Division 4
Unison D took the opportunity of Saddleworth CC having no match to take over at the top of the league defeating OTTC B 9-1 with Tony Hyde and Dennis Heyes both being unbeaten.
Oldham Deaf are in third place after defeating Werneth F 8-2. Prakash Bhojani and Ian Cockcroft both recorded three wins.
The inter club game between Failsworth E and D teams ended in a 5-5 draw. Paul King and Andrew Tarpey registered two wins for the E team while Dave Wilson
was unbeaten for the D team.
Honeywell Lane E got the better of bottom side Failsworth F 6-4 and in the other game Coldhurst E defeated Owls B 6-4.
WEEK 9 -Witnessed teams consolidating their positions in the bid for honours and promotion.
Div 1.
Werneth A’s 8-2 win over OTTC A, despite the efforts of Josh Boult (2) who was outstanding for OTTC.
Hollinwood B’s 9-1 win (Ian Quinn (3) Colin Boardman (3) puts them in third place, just 3 points behind Weneth A.
Uppermill A’s 9-1 win over Wardle moved them away from the relegation zone. Hyde YMCA’s 3 sets came from Steve Lyons in their 7-3 defeat by Hollinwood A
Div 2
Hollinwood E had their first win of the season with 3 wins for Ron Mitchell.
Unison B (2nd from Bottom) did well to take 4 sets from Hollinwood C (2nd in League)
3 wins for Mick Pellowe, Adam Rowbotham and Ade Ewenla ensured respectable score for their teams.
Unison A’s 6-4 win over Gilders keeps them top of the division
Div 3
Coldhurst B’s 9-1 win over their C team moves them 3 points clear at the top of the div.
Honeywell C ‘s 10-0 win over their D team ensures they continue to challenge for promotion.
Failsworth C must be pleased with their 6-4 win over the much higher placed Unison C.
Likewise, Failsworth B did well against 2nd placed Grotton B losing by 6-4 with doubles from Vinny Gaffey and Richard Hinchliffe.
Div 4
This was a week of the strong defeating the weak- with no unexpected outcomes. However, Unison D may yet woe the fact that being 7-0 up they lost the last 3 Sets. The clash at the bottom of the table saw Failsworth D beat the F team 7-3 with trebles from Dave Wilson and Alan Nightingale.
Phil Coombe, Phil Mellor, Prakesh Bhojani, Ian Cockcroft and Martin Haigh all won maximum sets for their respective teams.

It is all change at the top of Division 2 of the Oldham & District Table Tennis League following last week’s results. First Transport take over at the top following their 8-2 victory at Gilders A with trebles by Ken Hayes & debutant Steve Barber and a double from Tommy Ryan. Adi Ewenla gave Gilders their only singles win.
Unison A moved into 2nd spot courtesy of a 9-1 win against their B team. Steve Slater beat Dave Hanson to avoid the whitewash.
Hollinwood C drop to third after losing 6-4 at Werneth D. Karen Hill scored a maximum for Werneth with singles from Mick Pellowe & Alan Else.
Rosehill B, making up ground fast, move into 4th after their 8-2 win against Pennine. Simon Collins (3), Andy Perry (3) and Warwick Francis (2) inflicted the damage with Keith Fendall scoring a single in reply. Glen Chadwick & new signing Dave Harris combined well to win the doubles for the extra point.
Hyde YMCA B’s season took a turn for the better beating Hollinwood D 7-3 thanks to trebles by Dennis Bradshaw & Steve Buckley.
In Division 3 Grotton B & Coldhurst B are locked together on equal points at the top.
Grotton beat Honeywell B 8-2 with yet another unbeaten performance from Alf Barker, ably assisted by doubles from Steve Smith & Neil Tomlinson. The in-form Alan Marston replied with a double for Honeywell.
The Coldhurst B team of Simon Walsh (3), Gary Keylock (3) and Tom Chandler (2) had a 9-1 win against Failsworth C for whom Callum Jones scored their single.
Third & fourth placed Honeywell C & Uppermill B fought out a draw in a game where no player escaped defeat, but all contributed.
A treble from Frank Sheldon helped Unison C to a 7-3 win against Gilders B.
Trebles from Malcolm Wills & Murray Corbin and a double from Terry Holland ensured a 9-1 win for Coldhurst C at Honeywell D.
Coldhurst D remain behind Uppermill C despite beating them 8-2 with maximums from Dave Varney & Neil England.
Division 4 leaders Saddleworth CC were pushed all the way by OTTC B before running out 7-3 victors mainly thanks to Alex Griffiths, who narrowly achieved a treble beating Champra Vaghji (2) game 13 in the fifth.
A maximum from Dennis Heyes made the difference in Unison D’s 6-4 win at the improving Honeywell E.
Oldham Deaf overcame Failsworth D 6-4 thanks to wins from Ian Cockcroft (3) & Prakash Bhojani with Dave Wilson (2) replying.
A maximum from Richard Tamworth & a couple from Dinesh Gorasia together with the doubles was enough to give Oldham Owls a 6-4 win against Werneth E.
Division 1 leaders Glodwick are now 15 pts clear following their emphatic 10-0 win against fourth placed OTTC A.
Werneth B hosted BAE A in the drawn match. Tony Smith was unbeaten for the visitors, whilst Phil Myers & Gary Skinner scored doubles for Werneth.
BAE B picked up their first win of the season beating Werneth C 6-4 thanks to a maximum from Kevin Hill and a double from Mick Hill whilst Wilf Crompton’s double in reply kept them in the game
