ending 14th December 2007.
The start of the second half of the Oldham & District Table Tennis League season produced no major surprises although Wardle Conservative Club, lying at the foot of the first division did well to take 4 sets from Rosehill A. Paul Howarth & Liaqat Ali each recording 2 wins, whilst Dave Pegg was in good form recording a treble for the Ashton based club.
OTTC A defeated Uppermill A 8-2, Josh Boult (3), Andy Kaye (3) & Matt Weatherby (2) being the scorers for the winners, and Uppermill A were also beaten by BAE A 9-1, Tony Bates (3) Tony Vaughan (3) & Tom Lang (2) proving successful, while Gary Crossley prevented the whitewash with a solitary victory for Uppermill.
Fourth placed Hollinwood B were comfortable 9-1 winners against Grotton A thanks to good performances from Ian Quinn (3), Tristran Swann (3) and Simon Hardwick (2), whilst a similar victory was recorded by Werneth A who beat Hollinwood A, Darryl Meredeith (3), Peter Morris (3) and Stuart Meredith (2) proving successfull for the victors, with Jon DePledge salvaging a point for Hollinwood.
Glodwick strengthened their position as leaders beating BAE A 8-2, assisted by trebles from Andy Jackson & Mark Ramsbottom and a double from Khamal Hussain.
In division 2 Hyde YMCA B beat Gilders A 10-0, Dennis Bradshaw, Andy Gummersall & Vernon Hyde all being undefeated.
Coldhurst A had a hard fought victory over Failsworth A, Simon King, Roger Lee, Adam Rowbotham & Matthew Evans each gaining two wins for their respective teams, whilst First Manchester maintained the top position in the division with an 8-2 victory over Coldhurst A, Steve Barber (3) Ken Hayes (2) & Tom Ryan (2) recording good wins for the leaders.
Gilders A won 7-3 at Pennine, Ade Ewenla winning his expected three, ably assisted by Martin Nicholls (2) and Colin Ogden (2) while Hollinwood C retained second place with an 8-2 win over their E team.
Rosehill B, also aiming for promotion, beat unison B 9-1 at home, with maximum victories for Andy Perry, & Warwick Francis and two wins for Jimmy Findlow, with Mike Brierley being the sole winner for the visitors.
In the remaining Division 2 match Werneth D were beaten 8-2 by Hollinwood D and after a number of closely contested games Steve Mather (3) John Hannah (2)& Paul Rourke (2) were victorious for Hollinwood with Mike Pellowe winning two for the losers.
In the third division, a good sporting contest between the Coldhurst teams saw the C team defeat the D team 7-3, John McLoughlin won his three sets, well supported by Terry Holland (2) & Malcolm Wills (2) with Neil Chapman producing a most creditable double for the losers.
Uppermill B beat Uppermill C 9-1, Stuart Hanson being the only winner for the C team, with Pete Watson & Keith Moores undefeated for the B Team and Howard Meadham gaining a double.
Owls A proved a little too experienced against a youthful, enthusiastic Failsworth C side, for whom Joe Crawley & Callum Jones played well. Father and son Tamworth gained 4 sets between them for Owls A with Paul Woodward gaining a treble victory in his usual consistent manner.
Grotton B strengthened their runners up position by beating Honeywell c 7-3, Alf Barker & Steve Smith each had 100% records for Grotton, with Ken Dunkerley & Derek Naylor winning one set each for Honeywell.
Honeywell B proved too strong for a weakened Failsworth B winning 9-1, a score by which Coldhurst B defeated Gilders B, whilst Unison C played out an exciting draw against Uppermill B in which Keith Moores proved to be man of the match.
The Fourth division ‘Derby’ match at Werneth resulted in an 8-2 win for the E team thanks to unbeaten performances by Phil Coombe & Darren Mitzi despite excellent play by Ashley Murray & Olive Ashworth in the F team.
Deaf club maintained their second position with an 8-2 win over Coldhurst E, while Saddleworth continued on their winning ways beating Failsworth D 7-3 and now lead the division by 4 points.
The Oldham inter- league team banished any relegation fears from the Lancs & Cheshire premier division recently. An excellent first win against champions Manchester (4-2) followed by a 5-1 success over Southport together with a 3-3 draw against neighbours Glossop sees them with the potential of a highly placed finish. Khamal Hussain has more than justified his selection with fine wins against experienced opposition. The Oldham number one Darryl Meredith has still yet to drop a set at this level and is the platform for the success. Dave Buckley chipped in with a couple of wins backed by a contribution from Ian Quinn. The final rounds are to be completed in April next year where anyone from four teams could take the title.

ending 7th December 2007.
At the half way stage of the season, last years’ champions Glodwick TTC are currently in the No 1 spot having beaten Hollinwood A 10-0. Andy Jackson, Majid Tubasum & Khamal Hussain were unbeaten, but not as comfortably as the score suggests, with 8 of the sets decided over 4 sets.
Second placed Werneth A beat Rosehill 9-1 with Darryl & Stewart Meredith & Gary Skinner all scoring maximums.
Third placed Hollinwood B drew with 5th placed OTTC A, for whom Dave Griffith was undefeated, with George Jones & Tristran Swann replying with doubles.
Mid table Werneth B achieved a 7-3 win over bottom club Wardle with Eddie Darlington, Doug Hill & Mandy Winskill scoring doubles and Liaqat Ali responding with a double.
Another mid table side Grotton A were held to a draw by relegation worried BAE B. Grottons Shaun Ellis was undefeated with Mick Hill & Eddie Kalinowski replying with two each.
Second bottom Werneth C produced a fine 7-3 win against top half opposition Hyde YMCA A. Wilf Crompton was undefeated for Werneth, supported with a double from Bernard Davies. Ken Ward scored two for the losers.
In Division 2 First Transport top the table. Second placed Hollinwood C were beaten 7-3 at 4th placed Honeywell A, for whom Barrie Royle, Brian Higgins & Peter Buckley all scored two, with Bob Johnson replying similarly for Hollinwood.
Third placed Unison A ran out 6-4 winners at mid table Hollinwood E, with Unison’s Dave Cheetham the only unbeaten player.
Hollinwood D swapped league positions with Failsworth A 7-3 and now sit in 7th place. John Hannah was unbeaten and Steve Mather scored two.
Basement team Unison B were 7-3 losers at 3rd bottom Pennine, for whom Glen Chadwick & John Robertson scored maximums.
Coldhurst B are top team in Division 3, with Simon Walsh, Gary Keylock & Tom Chandler achieving a clean sweep over their D team.
In second place, just 3 points behind the leaders lie Grotton B who inflicted a 9-1 victory on Coldhurst C. Alf Barker& Steve Smith were both undefeated.
Honeywell C in third position lost the first two sets to Owls A, before recovering to win 7-3. Dave Harthan scored 2 for Owls and Derek Naylor three for Honeywell.
Honeyewell B in 4th spot managed a 6-4 victory at Failsworth with doubles for all 3 players, Terry Cooper, Allan Marston & Alan Wynn. Pete Aspin scoring twice for Failsworth.
Mid table Failsworth B were held to a draw at third bottom Uppermill C. Steve Collins of Failsworth was the only unbeaten player.
Fifth bottom, Gilders B beat basement team Honeywell D 7-3. Mark Craven was the only unbeaten player and Tom Loftus, Leo Cogger & Ron Holt (with a combined age exceeding 220 years), each replying with one win.
In Division 4 Saddleworth Cricket increased their lead to five points with a comfortable 8-2 win over Werneth F. Ian McLean & Peter Skuse were both undefeated.
Second top Deaf Club beat 3rd placed Unison D 6-4. Ian Cockcroft was unbeaten for Deaf who now have an 8 point lead over their nearest rivals.
Owls B in 5th place beat lowly Failsworth D 6-4 with Failsworth’s Dave Wilson the only undefeated player.
Mid table Werneth E were comfortable winners over Failsworth E 8-2, with Phil Coombe unbeaten for Werneth & Brian Micklethwaite & Darren Mitzi adding doubles.

The top of the table clash in Division
4, resulted in a draw between Saddleworth CC & Oldham Deaf, with
Deaf’s Ian Cockcroft being unbeaten and doubles in reply for Chris Brazewell
& Peter Skuse. Saddleworth also posted an 8-2 win against Failsworth E
for whom Paul King & James Collins scored excellent single wins.
The Honeywell E team of John & Pete Ganley
(3 each) and Pete Sharples (1) beat Owls B 7-3 for whom Philip Tamworth and
John Tanner replied with singles.
Werneth F managed their second victory of the
season thanks to wins from Pete Aspinall (3), Ashley Murray (2) & Olive
Ashworth (1) with replies from Dave Murphy (2) & Fred Pickles (1) for
Failsworth D.
The bottom teams met in a game involving youth & experience. The Failsworth F youngsters, Alex Leach (2), Sean McPhail (1) & Alex Reilly (2) ran out 6-4 winners against OTTC B who included 8 year old Abigail Griffith along with John Rutland (3) & George Jervis (1) adding the ‘experience’.
The top two teams also met in Division
3 with Coldhurst B emerging the 7-3 victors against Grotton B thanks
to Simon Walsh (3) Tom Chandler (2) and Gary Keylock (1). In reply the in-
form Alf Barker could only manage a single and Steve Smith a double.
The Honeywell C team of Ken Dunkerley (2), Alan
Wynn (2) and Derek Naylor (3) beat Failsworth C 8-2 with Pete Aspin scoring
the 2.
Honeywell B overcame Uppermill C 6-4 in a game
where Allan Marston & Dave Watts, for the winners, and Howard Meadham
& Gary Kershaw scored doubles in reply.
Maximums from the Uppermill B pairing of Peter
Watson & Keith Moores helped them to an 8-2 win against Gilders B.
The Unison C team of Jim Ballard (3), Mike O’Gara
(2) and Tony Hyde (1) beat Failsworth B 7-3 who replied with wins from Richard
Hinchliffe (2) & Vince Gaffey(1).
Dave Harthan & Paul Woodward were unbeaten
in Owls A 7-3 victory at Coldhust C, with Malcolm Wills, Terry Holland &
Murray Corbin all managing singles.
There was a resounding 8-2 win for Coldhurst
D against fellow strugglers Honeywell D with Neil Chapman & Neil England
scoring maximums.
The top two teams fought out a draw in Division
2 with doubles for Phil Holmes & Colin Boardman of Hollinwood
B & likewise for Ken Hayes & Tommy Ryan of First Transport.
Honeywell A beat Unison A 6-4 thanks to a maximum
from Peter Buckley and a double from Howard Travis. Dave Cheetham replied
with a double.
An unbeaten performance from Jimmy Findlow helped Rosehill B to a 6-4 victory at Failsworth A, who all put in good performances, with a double from Adam Rowbotham and singles from Matty Evans & Steve Collins.
A weakened Coldhurst A team went down 7-3 against
Hollinwood D for whom Steve Mather and John Hannah scored doubles with the
unbeaten Glen Dowse starring.
Hollinwood E also took advantage of a weakened
Gilders A team beating them 8-2 with maximums from John Hannah & Ron Mitchell.
Pennine managed their second win of the season
in consecutive weeks, beating Werneth D 7-3 with a maximum from Glen Chadwick
who has regained some form.
Unison B scored their first win of the season
beating Hyde YMCA B 6-4 mainly thanks to Andy Hey (3) and Mike Brierley (2).
In Division 1 OTTC A beat BAE
B 9-1 with maximums from Josh Boult & Andy Kaye and a double from Matthew
Weatherby in a match which 7 of the 10 sets went the full distance.
BAE A team beat Hollinwood A 7-3 with Tony Vaughan
being the only player to escape defeat.
Three wins for Grotton’s Shaun Ellis gave them a draw against Werneth C.
Werneth A beat their B team 9-1 with Eddie Darlington avoiding the whitewash.
